From Berlin to Cologne and Düsseldorf

The Barnes Foundation invites you to join Thom Collins, Neubauer Family Executive Director and President of the Barnes on an exciting trip to Germany filled with enriching cultural experiences and fascinating visits covering ancient to contemporary art. We will base ourselves in Berlin for four full days of visits in the buzzing capital exploring its world class museums with curator-guided tours, contemporary artist studios, impressive private collections, and special visits with galleries as part of Berlin's famous gallery weekend. From Berlin, we will venture on a day trip to Potsdam for a historic tour of the Prussian Palace of Sanssouci. The trip will continue after a short train ride through The Rhineland as we explore Düsseldorf and Cologne for exciting artist studio visits and a continued exploration of the German art and cultural scene. These storied cities are filled with fantastic artist studios and both historic and contemporary art collections. We will also enjoy the Rheinland's gastronomy as a rich foodie capital known for its refined cuisine, boasting dozens of Michelin-starred restaurants.

Highlights of the Trip Include:

  • Private curator-guided tours of Berlin's top museum institutions including Museum Island, the Hamburger Bahnhof, and a selection from Museum Island with highlight tours of the Neues Museum by David Chipperfield, Pergamon Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie or the Altes Museum
  • Visits to private collections including the Boros Collection housed in a World War II bunker, the Erika Hoffmann Collection, the Oetker Collection, and receptions in private homes
