Art & Culture in Mexico City

The Asian Art Museum invites you to Mexico City, one of the most important political, cultural, educational, and financial centers in North America. On this exclusive journey, we will explore some of the best private collections and artist studios, and also enjoy afterhours museum visits and owner-led gallery tours. The trip includes a VIP preview and tour of Latin America's largest art fair, ZONAMACO, which brings together leading and emerging national and international art galleries every February in this thriving capital. Throughout the journey, travelers will experience the Mexico City arts scene with an Asian and Asian-American lens.

Your booking is requested as soon as possible, but no later than November 30. Reservations will be processed on a first come, first served basis. All programming may change and is subject to availability of hosts, collectors and artists.

The Museo Jumex is the home for the Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo. The museum opened on November 19, 2013 and is recognized as one of the most significant contemporary art museums in Latin America, showcasing a vast collection that includes works by renowned artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Gabriel Orozco. Designed by British architect David Chipperfield, the four-story building was designed to compliment its contemporary collection and promote discovery and reflection. The building features a striking saw-tooth roof that allows natural light to enhance the viewing experience throughout.

Recognized as the largest art fair in Latin America, Zona Maco is an annual international art fair founded in 2003 by the Zélika García. It takes place every February in Mexico City at the Centro Citibanamex. The name "Maco" stands for "México Arte Contemporáneo," reflecting its focus on contemporary art; however, the fair also showcases design, photography, and antiquities. Most recently the fair had 208 exhibitors from 25 countries, solidifying itself as a significant platform for local and international galleries going into its 22nd year.

The Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) is a significant cultural landmark and renowned architecturally. Constructed between 1904 and 1934, it showcases both Art Nouveau and Art Decostyles, making it one of the most iconic buildings in the city. The palace houses the Museo Nacional de Arquitectura and numerous murals by prominent Mexican artists, including Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros, all central to Mexican identity and history.

  • Airfare and breakfast are not included in programming
  • Hotel extras (minibar, laundry, telephone, and internet fees)

Payment and Cancellation Policy

  • 50% of trip price is due with registration; 50% is due sixty days prior to the trip's start date
  • This trip is limited to 20 guests and a minimum of 16 guests is required to operate this trip.
  • No refund will be provided for cancellations within sixty days of the trip's start date. If the museum has another patron to fill a spot a substitution will be allowed. After the trip has commenced, no refunds are available, even if the client does not partake in all of the trip's activities or leaves the trip early. We highly recommend trip insurance which is offered when booking.
