The Portland Art Museum is delighted to invite you to join Director Brian Ferriso accompanied by Sara Krajewski, The Eichholz Foundation Senior Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, to explore the Los Angeles art scene. Brian and Sara will lead this experience and elevate the artistic and cultural landscape of this art focused destination. This trip is planned in conjunction with Artful Jaunts, and PAM patrons will be accompanied by Art Educator and Los Angeles resident Andrea Feldman Falcione, who invites us to enjoy her insider's perspective through LA, and Artful Experience Director Milena Berman, who has extensive knowledge of the city.
Our program takes place from February 27th - March 1, 2024. We will gather on Tuesday afternoon for a special tour of the Hammer Museum with Director Anne Philbin. Noted as one of the great museum directors of her time, Ms. Philbin transformed the Hammer into a contemporary art destination and has had a lasting impact on the LA art scene. We will visit several private collections including the home of one of the top 200 art collectors Jarl Mohn. Mr. Mohn and his wife Pamela are celebrated for funding the "Made in LA" exhibits and the Mohn Award for artistic excellence at The Hammer Museum. We will go on to enjoy two additional full days of immersive art experiences and special events including the VIP opening of the fair on Thursday afternoon. We will experience a behind the scenes tour of Hauser & Wirth gallery. Hauser & Wirth represents Christina Quarles one of the several artist studios we will visit. Additionally, we will visit the studios of Los Angeles based artists Andrea Bower who combines activism and advocacy in her art practice using video and colored pencils, and Whitney Bedford, who draws from her love of art history and new rooted amazement at flora and fauna to drive her art practice. Our trip is rounded out by a visit to The Broad to view the Desire, Knowledge, and Hope (with Smog), a group exhibition organized by curator Ed Schad, with works entirely from the museums collection. Plus we will enjoy a dinner at Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck's Spago sleek bistro offering creative, locally sourced Californian cuisine.
We will stay at the five star Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. This legendary hotel has been the preferred address for celebrities, royalty and the international elite — and it's easy to see why. Located at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive, we will stay in the enviable heart of Beverly Hills, with designer shopping, fine dining and postcard-worthy views at our doorstep.
