The Barnes Foundation invites you to
The Musée de l'Orangerie has acquired two remarkable works Portrait of a Woman and Portrait of a Man by Henri Rousseau, known as "Le Douanier" (1844-1910), by the Société des Amis du Musée d'Orsay et de l'Orangerie (SAMO) thanks to the exceptional participation of Mathias Ary Jan. This acquisition is in line with the museum's current plans to present a major exhibition devoted to Henri Rousseau, in collaboration with the Barnes Foundation, in spring 2026. This new acquisition brings to 11 the number of works by Douanier Rousseau held by the Musée de l'Orangerie. Thanks to this acquisition, the Musée de l'Orangerie now holds the largest collection of works by this artist after that of the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, for which Paul Guillaume acted as broker and intermediary with Dr. Albert Barnes.
